Xanadu: Robert Boyd at the Contest Gallery

LONDONDERRY - The exhibition Xanadu, at the Context Gallery of Londonderry from the 19th of October until the 24th of November, is a four-channel epic video installation in which the New Yorker artist Robert Boyd has been working for years. The artist assembled different archivial footage gathered from news broadcasts, internet, documentaries, cartoons and films in four compositions, namely "Heaven's Little Helper" (2005), "Patriot Act" (2004), "Judgment Day" (2006) and "Exit Strategy". He re-framed the footages in a composition of fast, sharp, second-long images accompanied by a 70s disco music, a music associated with black, Latino and gay subcultures, joining them as in a MTV-music video.

Memory and Conscience at the Foyle Film Festival

LONDONDERRY - Three American filmmakers at the Foyle Film Festival this year raise questions about memory and conscience. The Foyle Film Festival has been taking place every year in Londonderry since 1987 and is regarded as one of the most important events in Northern Ireland. It offers a range of contemporary Irish and European movies and documentaries, workshops, meetings and debates.A garden consisting of tunnels, pathways, grassy mounds, hidden spaces, and tall coloured poles dotted. This is not the latest Disney amusement park, but a project currently undertaken by RehabCare's Childern's Respite Service in Navan. The centre is a residential respite service for children within the Meath area with disabilities and or on the Autism Spectrum.

Dal 25 Marzo al 21 Luglio La Centrale Électrique di Bruxelles ospita la prima mostra monografica della controversa e sorprendente artista sudafricana Jane Alexander, dal titolo Security (Surveys from the Cape of Good Hope). L’esposizione di Bruxelles anticipa la presentazione delle opere dell’artista al Museum for Africa Art di New York il prossimo inverno ed esibisce installazioni, fotomontaggi e video sul tema – centrale nell’opera di Alexander – del Sud Africa post-coloniale.

A walk in the Bogside: you're now entering Free Derry

A visit to Derry means also a visit to one of the hubs of the history of Northern Ireland. I used to live in Derry some years ago and in the pubs, after a few drinks, I would often hear stories from locals about their first-hand experiences during the “troubles”.
